Freespire - what Ubuntu’s missing?
The word “Ubuntu” crops up quite a bit in my email.
So, it’s interesting to see that someone - presumably Linspire - is placing ads for Freepsire in Gmail that appear to be tracking “Ubuntu” as a keyword.

The text is: “What is Ubuntu Missing? - freespire.org - Need your desktop Linux to legally play mp3, Windows Media, DVD, etc.?”

Just did a Google search for Ubuntu and got this one:
Is Ubuntu Special? - freespire.org - 15 things that might be missing from your desktop Linux system.
I know one thing that isn’t missing from my desktop Linux system - freedom.

Ewww this leaves a very nasty taste in the mouth. “Freespire” are doing the equivalent of the negative political campaign. Sadly this sort of thing often works.
It’s not going to make me want to look at using Freespire but then I’m already a traditional supporter of (K)ubuntu however, to stretch my analogy, for the swing voter who is undecided about which distro to try it could persuade them.
I think it is quite difficult to counter this approach without wasting time and effort getting dragged into countering every point they make or taking a tit for tat approach and having a go at Freespire.
